Mrs. Ruby tells the children how she noticed that they used to word-for-word reading which bogged down their reading time. She offers an alternative: phrase reading. BASA!
BASA stands for Bayan Akayin sa Abot-Tanaw. We are a group of dreamers and doers in the Philippines and abroad. BASA is an outreach project of Center for Family Ministries-Daluyan. We wish to equip communities with the means to create a culture of reading. We bring book donations to public libraries and conduct training workshops for groups that work with children on a regular basis. We encourage authors to write uplifting books for nation-building. BASA's first book - Si Kontra, Si Bida at Si Big Boy Buwaya, written by Christine Bersola-Babao, won a Catholic Mass Media Award for Best Children's Book in 2010.
